Green Spaces is always looking for dedicated volunteers to bring their time, knowledge and helping hands to the San Antonio community. Whether your passion is assisting with clerical work in the office, gardening outside at one of our 30 community gardens, or spreading the word about Green Spaces at our events, your help is always welcome. Contact our Community Outreach Manager, Tia Moen, for more information, or sign-up today!
State your skills: We have a long list of ways for you to help out at a community garden.
Sign-up: We do ask that volunteers sign-up for selected events in advance so we can arrange for appropriate activities and materials for the number of volunteers.
Clothing: Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes appropriate for the season. We often end up wearing long pants to protect our knees when kneeling and long sleeves to protect our skin from over-exposure. Green Spaces t-shirts (long or short sleeve) are highly recommended since you are a representative of GSA.
Sun-protection: We also highly recommend wearing hats with a brim and using sunscreen.
Hand-protection: While we often are able to provide a box of reusable gloves, if a volunteer has her own, she is encouraged to bring them.
Tools: All the tools and equipment are provided by the host group or GSA. If you bring a favorite hand tool, please be sure to take it home again.
Refreshment: Sometimes, groups provide refreshments and snacks but we encourage all volunteers to bring their own water bottle.
Waiver: Each volunteer is also required to sign a waiver form.
